We offer many styles of dancing experiences

Our schools are of the highest quality in teaching and education.  We believe a qualified teacher understands that the training of a student will last for the rest of his or her life.  We teach how the muscles work to the fullest extent, and also teach stage presence using total control of body and mind.  The studio should be a place a student wants to be when young, training hard, but also having fun.

Joan Malone has been teaching for over 25 years. She was trained in Classical Ballet, Jazz and Tap. Her mentors were Lena Pelio and Robert Davis. Many of her students have gone on to be on broadway, became choreographers, and some have opened their own studios. Joan teaches with what she calls a tough love approach. The discipline of the dance must also apply to life, for not all students will be dancers.

Joan was a Ballet Theatre member and danced in such ballets as "Swan Lake", "Graduation Ball", and "Les Sylphyde." She created "Christmas at the Heritage," which was a production for the community, from dancers to singers to actors, for twelve years.

Joan also created "American Heritage Dance Conventions." Her staff was from California, New York, Chicago, and Michigan.  All of the staff were professionals and at the top of their fields. Joan would like to bring back those conventions.  It was a training and learning period for all students.  The conventions traveled to Tennessee, Chicago, Denver, Ohio, Pennsylvania. and Michigan.

"If there is interest to bring our conventions back, please let us know. We had a great following and I would love to hear from you!"

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Saginaw Location

The Saginaw Branch is now located at 6400 State Street.

"Dance Plus Stars" Dance Company, 2010

Will meet at the Saginaw location (6400 State St.) every Tuesday. This is by audition only. It is for children who want to learn competition. We will do 2 competitions in the month of May. New auditions will be held on September 12, 2010 (time will be scheduled later).

2010 Christmas Show

Our Christmas show took place on November 21, 2009, and was a huge success. I'm hoping to get parents involved in the backstage part of the show. We need carpenters, seamstresses, and prop people to move scenery.

We do have a board of directors and work closely with the Shriners.

All the proceeds go to the children’s burn unit. This is our school’s pet project to help the children. It’s important that our students know that it is a gift to help a helpless child.

The Symphony Christmas show was exceptional. They praised our dancers and their performance. They also want us to be a part of next year’s Christmas show. We were the first to be asked to dance with the symphony, so it was quite an honor.

This summer I will be doing choreography for both shows and our school will be more involved. I will have a sign up sheet at the desk in May so that I know what to plan for. All ages will be accepted.

Ballet Company

J. Malone Dance Studios will also be accepting auditions for a new Ballet Company which will be sponsored by The Saginaw Valley Cultural Organization, our non-profit organization, and will be under the direction of Joan Malone.

Ages of the young company will be 8 to 12 years, adults 13 through 16 years.

We would like to find someone to write grants for the company.  The ballet would then be performed in the 2009 Christmas Show.  If we receive grant money from the arts, our intention is to bring in a notable lead dancer from a professional ballet company.

We're also auditioning an all-boy's hip hop group to perform, as we would like the show to be well rounded, representing all the talent in our surrounding area.

It's our intention that this event be not just for J. Malone Dance Studios, but for everyone in the arts community in the Saginaw area.

- Joan Malone, Director, Saginaw Valley Cultural Organization.
